Originally performed to support and honour women after childbirth, this sacred rite has evolved into a powerful healing ritual for any woman undergoing a major life transition—not only after birth, but also during perimenopause, menopause, relationship endings, trauma release, or the closing of an old chapter
At its heart, the Closing of the Bones is a ceremony of containment, remembrance, and reclamation. It offers a sacred pause—a threshold space where you are lovingly held, honored, and witnessed as you integrate your experiences and return home to yourself.
The ritual involves ceremonial womb wrapping using rebozos or shawls at key energetic points along the body, particularly around the head, womb, and hips. This ritual creates a sense of containment, gently drawing the woman’s energy inward after periods of expansion or loss. Womb wrapping helps bring coherence back to the energetic field, supporting the release of trauma, grief, or fragmentation held in the physical and emotional body.
Sacred anointing—the intentional application of healing oils to the body—is also part of the ceremony. Each oil is selected intuitively or symbolically, honouring the archetypes or energies being invoked. Anointing is accompanied by invocation, poetry and prose, deepening the spiritual resonance of the rite.
